Welcome Back and Happy New Year!

THANK YOU FOR OUR CARING AND SHARING:  The Scituate Food Pantry was sincerely grateful for the enormous amount of food that everyone donated.  Mrs. Crowley who runs the Food Pantry came and spoke with the children and let them know what the Food Pantry does and how they help our community.  UNICEF was also grateful for the coins from our children.  We were able to send them $419!  Thank you also for all of your toy donations for Scituate Community Christmas.  We put together 27 stockings for children in our community that need help.  Thank you to each and every Beach Street School Family.

PAJAMA DAY:  Thursday, January 12th and Friday, January 13th.  The children can bring their favorite stuffed animal and wear their pajamas!  We will be cooking pancakes too!

POLAR EXPERIENCE:

Get ready for a Polar Experience on Monday, January 30th and Tuesday, January 31st.

“TALKING ABOUT TOUCHING” PARENTS ORIENTATION:  Wednesday evening, January 18, 2011 at 7:30pm.  Debra Olsheva, formerly from the Prevention and Community Services (a division of Health Care of Southeastern, MA, inc.) will be here to explain in detail the “Talking About Touching” curriculum that will begin January 23th.  A video that will be shown to the children at the very end of the curriculum (May) will be shown to the parents this evening.  “Talking About Touching” is a preschool curriculum that focuses on teaching children basic skills that will help them keep safe from dangerous and abusive situations.  We have used this curriculum for 10 years now and have always had wonderful feedback.  If you are new to BSS, please make it a priority to attend this meeting so that all of your questions can be answered.  Please speak to Mrs. Carroll if you plan on attending.

PROGRESS REPORTS:  Progress Reports will go home on January 19th and January 20th.

PARENT CONFERENCES:  Parent Conferences will be held on January 30th and January 31st.  If you are comfortable with the day to day communication with the teachers, you may not need a conference.  If you would like a conference, a sign up sheet will be put on the classroom door the week of conferences.

COMMUNITY WORKERS PROGRAM:  We love to have parents come in and talk with the children about “what you do for work”.  If you are interested, please see Mrs. Carroll or Mrs. Fennelly.

REGISTRTATION FOR SEPTEMBER 2011 PRE K CLASSES:

Registration for all classes is ongoing.  Please see Judy or Suzanne in the office for registration forms.  Due to the popularity of the 3 Day AM Pre K class, we will need to hold a lottery.  The lottery will take place at the end of January and the class will be posted on January 30th.

A FEW REMINDERS:  We do go out every day unless it is raining, below 20 degrees or the playground is icy and unsafe.  We do go out in the snow!  Please make sure your child comes with snow pants, boots, mittens and hats marked with their name.  It is always safe to have those items in their backpacks.  If the Scituate Public Schools are closed due to snow, we are too.  If the afternoon public Kindergarten classes are cancelled, we will cancel too.  If there is a one or two hour delay – we start at the regular time.

I’m a little snowman

Round and Fat

Here are my mittens

Here is my hat

When the sun comes out

I melt away

See you again on a snowy day
